Review For Why Stop Now

First-time directors Phil Dorling and Ron Nyswaner can't find a coherent emotional tone, and the actors' energetic contortions can't keep the sinking story afloat.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

Drug abuse stories are to Hollywood what babies are to mothers: fascinating to the talkers, not so interesting for their audiences.
Kyle Smith-New York Post

Feels trapped in the limbo between comedy and drama where many indies gamely venture, but from which few emerge with any resonance.
Robert Abele-Los Angeles Times

As "Why Stop Now?" gathers momentum, the increasingly uneasy sensation it produces is not unlike that of being in the back seat of a speeding car whose drunken driver refuses to give up the wheel.
Stephen Holden-New York Times

Why Stop Now refuses to keep faith with its characters, to carry them as far as they can go without tying them up in a neat bow of redemption.
Ella Taylor-NPR

This comic drama tries too hard to serve up a slice of manic life, but Eisenberg, along with Tracy Morgan and Isiah Whitlock Jr. as the affable druggies, provides some spark.
Joe Neumaier-New York Daily News

An odd mix of blatantly comedic moments and strangely serious scenes, Why Stop Now finds itself stranded on an odd middle ground between comedy and drama.
Chelsey Grasso-Paste Magazine

Young man's very bad day includes drugs, swearing, more.
S. Jhoanna Robledo-Common Sense Media

The alleged comedy 'Why Stop Now' is here to prove that when it tries really, really hard to be awful it can overcome the obstacle of having a terrific cast.
Jordan Hoffman-ScreenCrush

Boasts such a diverse cast of recognizable faces that you have to wonder where it all went wrong..a half-hearted tale that should land with more impact than it does.
Marshall Fine-Hollywood & Fine

Each actor is adept at twisting a line or bit of spectacular illogic so gasps turn to laughs.
Kirk Honeycutt-honeycuttshollywood.com

Fast-paced and driven by Eisenberg, again finding varying dimensions in a twitchy character that isn't a repeat of his past roles.
Matt Pais-RedEye

It's handsome, well-paced, and nicely acted, but suffers from a fatal lack of purpose, as if Dorling and Nyswaner couldn't commit to whatever movie they wanted to make.
Scott Tobias-AV Club

Shifting between wacky situation comedy and somber familial drama, Why Stop Now? isn't invested enough in either mode to convincingly pull off its genre-hopping ambitions.
Andrew Schenker-Slant Magazine

Delivers just enough laughs to remain recommended, despite the fact that this hard to pigeonhole head-scratcher would have benefited from making a total commitment to either comedy or a drama.
Kam Williams-myfilmblog

Isn't very funny or poignant, drifting somewhere in between while the actors make the best out of a lackluster storytelling situation.

Review For Raaz 3: The Third Dimension 3D

[Basu] gives"Raaz 3" its defiantly retro flamboyance.
Robert Abele-Los Angeles Times

The film world setting could be better exploited and Shanaya's jealousy made less mechanical, but "Raaz 3" delivers other goods ...
Rachel Saltz-New York Times

Raaz 3 delivers some effective gore (including the grisly fate of Sanjana's maid and a ripped-off head) as well as lots of steamy make-out scenes.

Old school grandfather Artie (Billy Crystal), who is accustomed to calling the shots, meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife Diane (Bette Midler) agree to babysit their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents (Marisa Tomei, Tom Everett Scott) go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane's old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it's learning to bend - and not holding your ground - that binds a family together

Review For Parental Guidance

This grating family comedy resembles a sitcom in its flat lighting, patronizing music cues, and frames supplying little visual information apart from the actors' mugging faces.
Ben Sachs-Chicago Reader

One of those intergenerational embarrassment comedies in the Meet the Fockers line, where children can enjoy seeing grown-ups looking ridiculous.
Liam Lacey-Globe and Mail

An extended "in my day" joke intended to convey the superiority of old people over a lot of supposedly contemporary behavior that doesn't actually exist in real life.
Chris Packham-Village Voice

After a while it seems to run out of jokes, maybe to make room for all the crying and hug-it-out family redemption in the last half hour.
Owen Gleiberman-Entertainment Weekly

I can't deny I did feel fonder of my own family afterward, mostly because I know none of them would ever make me sit through Parental Guidance.
Mary F. Pols-TIME Magazine

It's hard to know who exactly "Parental Guidance" was made for.
Michael O'Sullivan-Washington Post

A joyless and crude comedy that celebrates bathroom humor.
John Hanlon-Big Hollywood

The film's gags are predictable and fairly lame, but the stars' diehard fans will enjoy Crystal's snarky one-liners and, yes, Midler's singing.
Jason Best-Movie Talk

Borscht Belt humor combines with serious schmaltz to produce this gummy formulaic family comedy.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

People with brains they can't turn on and off for 90 minute stretches of holiday family togetherness will be driven to take some kind of painkiller before the final credits roll. Everyone else will be fine
Dave White-IFilm

If 'Parental Guidance' is the drivel that's passing for family fare this winter, then it's best to just keep your family warm and entertained at home.
Linda Cook-Quad City Times (Davenport, IA)

... a shameless mix of obnoxious slapstick and relentless bodily-function humor that results in shots to the crotch for Crystal and blows to the brain for moviegoers.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

I don't know if it's reassuring or scary that in such an American film the kids seems to be UK-style victims of both health and safety rules and political correctness at the same time.
Graham Young-Birmingham Mail

Poor Crystal. There remains a scintilla of dignity in his sad clown. He may beatbox while wearing wraparound sunglasses, but, thankfully for you and yours, he does not dance the robot.
Leah Churner-Austin Chronicle

The underlying issues make for a surprisingly relevant film.
Graham Young-Birmingham Post

A yappy pile-up of grandparents-know-best shtick, gross-out bathroom humor and sentimental claptrap.
Neil Pond-American Profile

Crystal, Midler and Tomei make a perfect combination for this funny but heartwarming family film
Jackie K. Cooper-jackiekcooper.com

A brutal comedy of bad manners ...
Philip French-Observer [UK]

Just as ghastly as it sounds.
Henry Fitzherbert-Daily Express

The family friendliest movie comedy this holiday season is also the sappiest and schmaltziest. And thanks to Billy Crystal, the shtickiest.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

A film with little else to commend it from the obvious.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

Frankly it all feels a bit obvious, perfunctory and dated.
Stella Papamichael-Radio Times

Midler does her best as a put-upon grandma but, ultimately, Parental Guidance feels dated.

With an all-star cast led by Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, with Susan Sarandon and Robin Williams, THE BIG WEDDING is an uproarious romantic comedy about a charmingly modern family trying to survive a weekend wedding celebration that has the potential to become a full blown family fiasco. To the amusement of their adult children and friends, long divorced couple Don and Ellie Griffin (De Niro and Keaton) are once again forced to play the happy couple for the sake of their adopted son's wedding after his ultra conservative biological mother unexpectedly decides to fly halfway across the world to attend. Review For The Big Wedding

It's not the sheer predictability of the ensuing frolics that's hardest to take, or even the dismal attempts at humour ... but the sheer misery of watching actors you once respected demean themselves in such utterly worthless fodder.
Trevor Johnston-Time Out

Barring a few off-color jokes, though, the movie feels like a Carol Burnett sketch dragged out to feature length.
Ben Sachs-Chicago Reader

It's tired and dated with too few laughs to justify the stultifying attempts at drama and the impossible-to-swallow plot contortions.
James Berardinelli-ReelViews

Looks great, some terrific ingredients, but when you slice it up, what a disappointment.
Richard Roeper-Richard Roeper.com

Sarandon, Keaton and De Niro mesh beautifully, fully convincing as a trio of old friends and carting in lots of characterization that would be otherwise lacking in Zackham's rote screenplay.
Alonso Duralde-The Wrap

The Big Wedding is a would-be screwball comedy that forgets to throw in the screws.
Rene Rodriguez-Miami Herald

Behold the unholy matrimony of hack-job romance and whack-job comedy. Witness the blindingly bleached marriage of house-porn and cocky Caucasian privilege. Suffer the union of former A-list stars and express-cashed paycheques.
Brian Gibson-Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Canada)

Built on chaotically disparate tones and extremely broad jokes that never hit their mark, The Big Wedding is completely devoid of laughs.
Josh Slater-Williams-The Skinny

Sinks to new levels of horrid.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

At least somebody does fall in the swimming pool. It's Robert De Niro. Unfortunately, he resurfaces.
Donald Clarke-Irish Times

With De Niro inexcusably using what is for many people the single most obscene swear word, this is well off target.
Graham Young-Birmingham Mail

An all-star cast very nearly goes down with the ship as filmmaker Justin Zackham (The Bucket List) indulges in relentlessly farcical silliness.
Rich Cline-Contactmusic.com

Big wedding? Big fat nothing, more like.
Charlotte O'Sullivan-This is London

"Oh God, this is humiliating," trills Diane Keaton and she never said a truer word.
Allan Hunter-Daily Express

This is not so much Meet The Fockers as meet the shockers. The jokes are something old, nothing new, mainly borrowed and sadly blue. De Niro is a shadow of his former shelf, not so much Taxi Driver as taxidermy.
Brian Henry Martin-UTV

Disappointing, poorly conceived comedy that's both emotionally unconvincing and depressingly low on laughs, though the performances ensure that it remains watchable.
Matthew Turner-ViewLondon

Pure claw-your-eyes-out cinema.
Joseph Walsh-Little White Lies

This is one of those farces you come away from thinking the French would have done better. Then you discover that the French have already done it, and better.
Elliott Noble-Sky Movies

A frothy and harmless confection that squanders the on-screen talent.
Damon Smith-Birmingham Post

You'll run out of appendages on which to count the clichés.
Ali Gray-Film4

While it's nice to see talents like Keaton and Sarandon in The Big Wedding, it's ultimately frustrating seeing their talents wasted in Zackham's paper-thin excuse for a rom-com.
Eddie Harrison-The List

We don't.
Helen OHara-Empire Magazine

The jokes are squeezed from the ragged plot with the grace of an arthritic senior citizen trying to get milk out of a coconut by hand.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

One can only assume there was a big fat paycheck involved for the likes of Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon and Diane Keaton to negotiate a script with such lack of ambition, laughs and insight.
Stella Papamichael-Digital Spy

Involves four Academy Award winners, all cruelly wasted on roles unworthy of them.
Christopher Tookey-Daily Mail [UK]
